Serge Belamant was born in 1953. He was born in Tulle, France. When Belamant was just 14, his father moved the family from Tulle to South Africa. At first, Serge struggled to learn how to read and write in English. After he picked it up, he excelled in his studies.
Belamant studied at the all boy’s school in Johannesburg, South Africa. He excelled at Rugby, chess, and his studies. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg. Serge Belamant began studying engineering. After his first year of studies, Serge decided to switch his studies to computer science and applied mathematics.
It was during the third year of college that he decided to change universities again. Belamant enrolled in the University of South Africa. He changed his major of studies once again. But in order to achieve a degree in this field, he would have had to repeat classes he already took at Witwatersrand. Serge decided he was not cut out to repeat courses he already passed. After withdrawing from his studies at the University of South Africa, he went straight to work. Serge Belamant started his own company from there. Belamant created blockchain technology. He holds a patent for the technology. Technology that helped to improve the banking system throughout the world.
Serge Belamant’s blockchain technology is the same technology used to create many of today’s cryptocurrencies. It is the same technology used to administer government checks in South Africa. When Serge Belamant was approached by Visa to create an offline preauthorization technology, he jumped at the opportunity.
Of course, to create this technology for Visa meant he had to move to the United States. He stayed for 2 years. Belamant’s technology, which was once chuckled at, has changed many people’s lives.
Currently, Belamant is working on another company that he founded. He is working to help millennials keep track of all their banking transactions in one place. He thinks it is going to take off the way the blockchain technology did. Belamant had help from his son to create a new company.
